Brief introduction of Dr.Sushil vachani.
Dr. sushil vachani is a professor of strategy and policy at the school of management. He served as faculty director
of the International management programme offered by the school of management of Kobe and Japan for five years in the mid-1990s. His research has been published in the journal of International business studies, International business review, Havard business review, California management review and other publications. He is the editor of transformations in global governance: implications for multinationals and other stake holders (2006), co-editor of the role of MNCs in global poverty reduction (2006) and author of multi nationals in India: strategic product choices (1991).
Brief summary of the lecture:
The resource person started the session by asking questions on the case study which was already given to the fellows. The question is, “who is the responsible for the deaths in South Africa.” Fellows stated that various stake holders are the responsible for the deaths caused in South Africa. The interaction and questioning method adopted by the prof. was impressive. He acted as a facilitator and brought out the answers from the fellows. The prof. also discussed about strategy adopted by various stake holders. There was a discussion between the fellows about the objectives of the pharmaceutical companies. Some fellows’ argued social concern was one of the primary objectives. Some fellows felt that profit was the primary objective of the pharmaceutical companies. Prof discussed about the pricing strategy adopted different pharmaceutical companies.
Prof. gave a Ppt on role played by the GOVT, NGO and the private sector.
At the end of the session fellows were able to understand the policy strategies adopt by various stake holders in the case study.
